Hurricane Laura: How Will It Impact TNM Operations?

Southeast Texas is currently bracing for the potentially catastrophic Hurricane Laura. We want you to know how this will possibly affect your interactions with the Texas Nationalist Movement over the coming days.

The TNM is headquartered in Nederland which is in the vicinity of many of the projected landfall locations for Hurricane Laura. While the computer models and forecasts seem to change with every model run, there seems to be a consensus developing that it could make landfall as a strong Category 2 or even a Category 3 or higher. This would put it in the same classification as Hurricanes Rita and Ike.

Computer models of Tropical Storm Laura on August 23, 2020. The storm is projected to intensify into a Category 2 or 3 strength before landfall.

If the storm matches predictions, it could create an enormous amount of devastation in an area that is still recovering from Hurricane Harvey, Tropical Storm Imelda, and the TPC plant explosion.

Although the TNM’s operations are distributed throughout the state, there may be some impacts while other operations will continue as normal. Here’s what you need to know.

Calls and emails to the TNM will be fine

You can still call and email the main office. There will be no impact on calls or emails from members to the designated member extension. However, calls for general information, speaker requests, and media requests may experience some delays.

Once the storm has passed, we’ll send an email out to every TNM supporter in the affected areas asking for their status and if they need any assistance. Much like happened with Imelda, we expect to deal with a large number of response calls and emails in addition to our normal volume. If we do not immediately get to your email or call, please be patient. We’ll be doing the best we can under the circumstances.

In addition, to get out ahead of the hate mail that inevitably comes in about Texas, FEMA, and federal dollars, we’re going to ask everyone to visit and share this link: The Truth About Texas and FEMA Dollars

Membership cards will be delayed

Depending on the severity of the storm, new membership processing may be partially affected. Memberships will process online as normal, but the mailing of membership cards could be delayed.

Most TNM merchandise orders will likely not be affected

If you order TNM merchandise from the Texian Store, it will likely not be affected. We utilize third-party fulfillment services for situations just like this. The exception to this will be copies of the TEXIT book ordered from the TNM, window and bumper stickers, and flags. If you order any of these items, we will process the order but will hold it for shipping until we receive confirmation that all postal and shipping routes are clear.

Remember your fellow Texans

In the aftermath of the storm, no matter the impacts on Southeast Texas, we’ll diligently work to connect people who have been affected with those who want to help. The impact of natural disasters always outlasts the attention of news media and politicians. There will be many needs in the coming weeks and months that will go unseen and unspoken by the larger world. We believe that Texans will step up to meet those needs. The TNM will continue to do its part to exemplify our mission by extending care and compassion for our fellow countrymen and we ask you to do the same.
