As Texas gears up for the 2024 election cycle, the Texas Nationalist Movement has officially launched its Polling Place Volunteer campaign, aimed at promoting election integrity and preparing for the upcoming TEXIT referendum. The TNM is calling for committed volunteers to serve as poll watchers and exit pollers during early voting (October 21 – November 1) and on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
Why This Campaign Matters
The integrity of Texas elections is vital to the state’s future, particularly as we prepare for the Texas independence referendum. TNM volunteers will play a critical role in ensuring that the election process is transparent, fair, and secure. By participating in this campaign, you’ll be helping to safeguard the democratic process while also gauging public support for TEXIT and other key issues that impact Texas.
Volunteer Roles Available
We need volunteers in two essential capacities: exit pollers and poll watchers. Both roles are crucial for gathering information, monitoring the election process, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly.
Exit Poller
Exit pollers conduct surveys with voters after they cast their ballots. These surveys provide important insights into how Texans are voting and their positions on significant issues like TEXIT. Training will be provided, and the survey questions will be straightforward and non-partisan.
Requirements:
- At least 2 hours of volunteer time during early voting or on Election Day
- Comfort with approaching and respectfully speaking to voters
- Attendance at a TNM-hosted online training session (including practice and Q&A)
Poll Watcher
Poll watchers observe the election process at polling stations to ensure compliance with election laws. Their presence helps deter fraudulent activities and maintains accountability. This role requires additional training and a certificate from the Texas Secretary of State’s office.
Requirements:
- Two training hours, plus a minimum of 4 hours at a polling place
- You must reside in the county where you’ll volunteer and be a registered voter there
- Completion of the poll watcher certification process on the Texas Secretary of State website
- Appointment by a county party or campaign (TNM will assist with this)
- Bring a pen and notepad for observations
