TEXIT Petition Hits Signature Threshold To Appear On March Primary Ballot

The Texas Nationalist Movement (TNM) has reached the necessary signature threshold in their petition to put a proposition on the statewide primary ballot in March 2024 that will ask voters the question: “Should the State of Texas reassert its status as an independent nation?”

Under the Texas Election Code, the petition needed 97,709 signatures for the question to be placed in the Republican Primary Ballot. In an open letter to the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC), TNM President Daniel Miller states, “As of the date of this letter, we have collected the requisite number of signatures and more.”

Members of the SREC are meeting this weekend and will be presented with a sampling of the signatures. Miller states in the letter, “This weekend we brought a sample of the names, cities, and Senate Districts for over 102,000 petition signers…”

This news comes as the SREC is scheduled to decide on the list of ballot propositions that will be asked of primary voters in the March election. The question that is referred to in the petition is already among the list of propositions up for discussion by the SREC and is reinforced by the existence of two planks that already exist in the party platform calling for a vote on this issue.

However, the petition guarantees its inclusion on the ballot regardless of what the SREC decides. Miller’s letter states, “…failing action by the SREC to place the question on the list of ballot propositions, we will deliver [the signatures]… on or before the close of the filing window.”

“This issue has been discussed and debated within the Republican Party of Texas for eight years now,” says TNM President Daniel Miller. “The people want their voices heard, and we could not be more proud of those who answered the call, stepped up, and got us across the finish line on this petition. This is historic and is just the beginning for TEXIT.”

The open letter stresses that the question is not an endorsement of TEXIT by the Republican Party and strikes a conciliatory and cooperative tone in urging the SREC to add the proposition to the ballot through their normal process alongside its mandatory inclusion via the petition.

“Achieving the legal requirements for the petition guarantees that Republican voters will be asked the question in March. We are here to work with the SREC to make it happen together. Just like you, we want the voice of Republican voters heard. Whether you are for, against, or undecided TEXIT, we should all be able to agree that the platform matters, the Texas Bill of Rights matters, and the Republican voters matter.”

This news comes three weeks after TEXITCon, an unbelievably successful event brimming with pro-independence activists and scholars – the largest gathering of its kind in North America.

“It is evident to everyone at TNM that our event helped catapult us over this goal. The media and establishment will finally be required to listen to the voices who have fought long and hard for this moment. This is only the beginning, and I am so excited to use this momentous achievement to keep the ball rolling for TNM and Texians,” says Miller.

The petition landing page is located at texitpetition.com. Here, voters can find more information about the campaign and the petition process. The TEXIT Petition Campaign encourages all eligible voters to participate in this process and make their voices heard. Get ready for TEXIT on the ballot!
