This week, Texas Nationalist Movement (TNM) President Daniel Miller delivered a powerful message to representatives from around the world during the Global Summit of Independence Movements, hosted by the CalExit movement. The summit brought together leaders from various secessionist and autonomy movements, including those representing Baja, Cape South Africa, Alberta, Catalonia, and American states such as Hawaii, California, Florida, Louisiana, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Alaska.
In his address, Daniel Miller reinforced Texas’ long-standing commitment to self-determination, citing Article 1, Section 2 of the Texas Constitution, which asserts that “all political power is inherent in the people.” He reminded attendees that Texans, like the people represented at the summit, have an inalienable right to govern themselves and determine their future free from external control.

Throughout his speech, Miller connected Texas’ fight for independence to a global trend of nations and regions reclaiming their sovereignty. He highlighted the fact that since World War II, 140 nations have asserted their independence, a clear sign that self-determination is not only possible but also winning. Miller pointed to these new nations as a direct challenge to centralizing powers that seek to erode the political, cultural, and economic distinctiveness of local populations.
A Global Fight for Self-Determination
In his remarks, Miller placed the fight for Texas independence in a global context, stating:
“We are part of something much larger than ourselves. The global movement for self-determination is growing, and it is unstoppable.”
Miller acknowledged that, just like the Texas Nationalist Movement, other independence efforts—from Catalonia to Alberta, Cape South Africa to Hawaii—are driven by people who believe their futures are best secured through local governance and autonomy. He noted that the summit was a powerful reminder that these movements share a common belief: that governance must always reflect the will of the people.
A Critical Moment in History
Daniel Miller also emphasized the critical nature of the current global political climate, calling it one of the most important fights of our generation:
“The fight ahead is the most critical of our generation. What is at stake is more than just political independence—it is the survival of our cultural, economic, and political distinctiveness.”
As international powers increasingly seek to centralize authority, Miller’s call for vigilance and action struck a chord. He urged fellow representatives to continue building momentum for their movements, citing examples like Brexit and the Scottish independence referendum as modern evidence of the power of self-determination through democratic means.
The Path Forward for Texas
Miller reaffirmed TNM’s commitment to securing a Texas Independence Referendum, giving the people of Texas the right to decide their own future. He underscored the importance of grassroots activism, recognizing the tireless work of TNM’s volunteers in bringing the message of independence to every corner of Texas.
He reminded the summit’s attendees and viewers that the fight for independence is not just about governance but about protecting the cultural and political distinctiveness that makes each movement unique.
