The following remarks were delivered by Texas Nationalist Movement President Daniel Miller to the Angelina County GOP on November 12, 2024.
Thank you all for having me here tonight. Looking around this room, I see the dedicated Texans who helped deliver one of the strongest and clearest declarations of where Texans stand on governance that we’ve seen in our state’s history. That level of engagement, that demonstration of political will – it proves what Texans can accomplish when we’re united behind a cause.
But while many are celebrating across Texas tonight, I’m here with a message that might seem counterintuitive: our mission – our real mission – has never been more urgent than it is right now.
Let me be clear about that mission. The Texas Nationalist Movement exists to secure and protect the political, cultural, and economic independence of Texas. Notice I didn’t say our mission is TEXIT. Our mission runs deeper and broader than any single vote or election. It’s about building a Texas that is truly self-governing, truly independent, and truly free to chart its own course.
The election results show that Texans are engaged and motivated. We care deeply about governance. We care deeply about our future. But here’s the critical question we must ask ourselves tonight: will we direct that same energy, that same dedication, toward securing true self-governance for Texas?
Because make no mistake – while this election represents an opportunity, it’s an opportunity that comes with a timer attached. And that timer is already counting down.
Right now, we have a unique window of opportunity. With strong and effective grassroots political leadership in Texas and an incoming administration seemingly sympathetic to state sovereignty, some might be tempted to relax. To rest. To assume the battle is won.
That would be a catastrophic mistake.
These favorable conditions won’t last forever. History teaches us that political pendulums swing – and they swing hard. The time to build defenses isn’t when we’re under attack. The time to establish independence isn’t when it’s being actively opposed. The time is now.
What do I mean by defenses? I’m talking about concrete steps to make Texas structurally, operationally, and functionally independent. Right now, we have the political climate to:
- Strengthen our state institutions
- Secure our border on our terms
- Establish our own Texas-based currency
- Reinforce our independent power grid
- Build our own supply chains
- Strengthen our state guard
- Create our own frameworks for self-governance
Every single one of these initiatives becomes exponentially harder under hostile federal administration. Every one becomes even harder during a constitutional crisis.
Think about this: right now, Texas still depends on federal systems and federal bureaucracies for basic functions of governance. That’s not independence – that’s dependence. And it’s dangerous.
When I look around this room, I see Texans who understand the value of preparation. You prepare for natural disasters. You prepare for economic uncertainty. You prepare for threats to your family. Why would we do any less when it comes to preparing Texas for independence?
This window of opportunity we have? It’s not just about what we can achieve – it’s about what we must achieve while we have the chance.
Let me speak plainly about what’s coming. The midterm elections are just 24 months away. That might seem like a long time in today’s rapid-fire news cycle, but it’s barely enough time to get the fundamental work done.
Those who seek to centralize power in Washington aren’t taking a break to lick their wounds. They’re already mobilizing. Their fundraising machines are already humming. Their strategists are already planning. And their target? It’s the same as it’s always been – any state that dares to assert its sovereignty. Any state that dares to govern itself. Any state that dares to stand up and say ‘no’ to federal overreach.
And Texas, my friends, is at the top of their list.
Why? Because we’re successful. Because we’re prosperous. Because we’ve proven that states can govern themselves better than Washington ever could. Our success is their greatest threat.
Remember what happened after 2016? When President Trump tried to drain the swamp? Those 2.5 million unelected federal bureaucrats didn’t pack up and go home. They dug in. They resisted. They undermined every attempt at reform.
And they’re still there. Every single one of them. They weren’t on the ballot last week. They won’t be on the ballot in the midterms. They’ll never be on any ballot. But they’ll be in their offices tomorrow morning, writing regulations, issuing mandates, and planning how to extend their control over Texas.
The federal machinery remains fully intact and fully operational. The EPA is still targeting Texas energy. The Department of Education is still trying to dictate what Texas children learn. The FBI is still monitoring Texas parents at school board meetings. The DOJ is still plotting how to override Texas laws.
Let me share something that keeps me up at night. Right now, there are people in Washington – powerful people – who are already working to ensure that the president-elect never takes office. They’re plotting legal challenges, constitutional crises, anything to maintain their grip on power.
And if they succeed? If we wake up tomorrow to a constitutional crisis? How ready is Texas to stand on its own? How prepared are we to protect our citizens, our economy, our way of life?
This isn’t fear-mongering. This is reality. And it’s why our mission is more urgent now than ever before.
So let’s take a hard, honest look at where Texas stands today. Let’s ask ourselves the tough questions that demand answers.
Are we ready if the pendulum swings violently back in 2-4 years? Are we prepared if a constitutional crisis erupts tomorrow? Have we built the necessary institutions to function as a truly independent nation?
The answer, if we’re being brutally honest, is no. Not yet.
Yes, Texas has incredible advantages. We have the 10th largest economy in the world. We’re an energy powerhouse. We have our own power grid. We have the Texas State Guard. We have a strong state constitution. But we’re still far too dependent on federal systems that could be weaponized against us at any moment.
Think about our border. Yes, we’re taking action, but we’re still fighting federal obstacles at every turn. Think about our banking system – still tied to the Federal Reserve and their inflation-producing printing press. Think about our supply chains – still regulated by federal bureaucrats who’ve never set foot in Texas.
Every time Texas tries to act in its own interests, we face the same roadblock – a federal system that claims the power to override our decisions. And right now, we lack the structural framework to say ‘no.’
Some will say, ‘But we just won a major election. Things are looking up!’ Let me be clear – if you think having the right president means we can relax our push for independence, you’re missing the bigger picture. The presidency is temporary. The federal bureaucracy is permanent.
Remember this: every federal program, every federal regulation, every federal mandate creates another point of dependency. Another lever of control. Another way to force Texas to comply with federal demands.
And here’s what should really concern us – the opposition isn’t just planning for the next election. They’re planning for the next generation. While we celebrate electoral victories, they’re embedding their ideology in our institutions, our universities, our bureaucracies.
The time to break these dependencies isn’t when they’re being used against us. The time is now, when we have the political space to act.
So what do we do with this window of opportunity? How do we turn this moment of political strength into lasting structural independence?
First, we’re sending more Texas First Pledge signers to the next legislative session than ever before. But getting them there isn’t enough. We need every person in this room actively supporting legislation that strengthens Texas sovereignty.
We need bills that:
- Establish our own Texas-based currency
- Strengthen our border security apparatus
- Protect our power grid from federal interference
- Assert Texas’s monetary independence
- Defend Texas businesses from federal overregulation
- Expand and strengthen the Texas State Guard
- Protect Texas food and supply chains
And, above all, we need legislation that gives Texas the opportunity to ask the fundamental question of our our time – “Should the State of Texas reassert its status as an independent nation?”
But our work goes beyond Austin. In every county, in every community, we need to be building the framework for independence. Our county organizations are expanding, but we need more. We need every county in Texas ready to function independently if federal systems fail.
This isn’t just about politics – it’s about preparation. It’s about building resilience. It’s about creating the structures that will allow Texas to stand strong no matter what comes.
Right now, our movement is gaining unprecedented attention. Hundreds of millions are hearing our message. But attention isn’t enough. We need action. We need commitment. We need every Texan who believes in self-governance to step up and get involved.
The political climate is favorable now. We have momentum. We have support. But that means nothing if we don’t use this time to build something lasting. Something permanent. Something that can’t be undone by the next election cycle.
Remember: our mission isn’t just about winning elections. It’s about securing and protecting the political, cultural, and economic independence of Texas. That means building institutions that will outlast any administration, any party, any political movement.
Let me be absolutely clear: the sense of urgency has never been greater than it is right now. Never.
Some will tell you that this election victory means we can relax. They’ll say we can slow down. They’ll say we have time. They’re wrong. Dangerously wrong.
Every day we wait is a day our opponents use to strengthen their position. Every day we delay is a day federal bureaucrats use to embed themselves deeper into Texas governance. Every day we hesitate is a day we could have spent building Texas’s independence.
Tonight, I’m asking every person in this room: don’t wait. Don’t rest. Don’t assume someone else will do the work.
If you’re not already a member of the Texas Nationalist Movement, join tonight at TNM.ME. If you are a member, get active in your county organization. If your county doesn’t have an organization, start one.
Contact your representatives. Tell them you expect them to support legislation that strengthens Texas sovereignty. Tell them you’ll be watching their votes. Tell them Texas independence isn’t just a slogan – it’s a mandate.
Engage your neighbors. Share our message. Help build our momentum. The time for sitting on the sidelines is over.
Because here’s the reality we face: we don’t know what tomorrow brings. We don’t know when the next crisis will hit. We don’t know when federal overreach will directly threaten our families, our businesses, our way of life.
But we do know this: Texas must be ready. Texas must be strong. Texas must be independent.
The window of opportunity is open right now. But windows close. The time to act isn’t tomorrow. It isn’t next week. It isn’t after the next election.
The time is now.
Will you stand with us? Will you fight for Texas independence? Will you help us build a truly free, truly independent, truly self-governing Texas?
The choice is yours. But remember this: when the history of Texas independence is written, what will they say about what you did in this moment? When Texas needed you most, did you answer the call?
Thank you, God bless you, and God bless Texas.
