Texas Agriculture Commissioner Warns of “Water Apocalypse”

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has raised alarms about the state’s deteriorating water situation, warning that Texas is experiencing a dire water shortage. According to Miller, parts of the state, notably the Rio Grande Valley, have already depleted their water resources, directly impacting agricultural production.

“We lose about a farm a week in Texas, but it’s 700 years before we run out of land. The limiting factor is water. We’re out of water, especially in the Rio Grande Valley,” stated Miller in a recent interview. The commissioner emphasized the severity of the crisis by noting an 80% reduction in vegetable production in areas typically known for robust farming output due to the water shortage.

Several factors contribute to this challenge, including recent drought conditions, rapid population growth, overreliance on groundwater, and aging infrastructure, as outlined by the Austin-American Statesman. Commissioner Miller urged state lawmakers to prioritize securing a sustainable water supply for Texas. He also criticized the oil and gas industry for utilizing potable water in fracking operations, suggesting alternative sources like reuse and desalination practices.

For the Texas Nationalist Movement (TNM), this situation underscores the critical need for Texas to reassess its resource management and governance. It is a stark reminder of the importance of having a government that can address the unique challenges Texas faces autonomously.

Commissioner Miller’s call to action also aligns with TNM’s economic vision for an independent Texas, which includes a strong focus on self-reliance and resource sustainability. By pushing for innovative solutions like water recycling and desalination, Texas can better manage its resources independently, ensuring long-term prosperity for its people and enhancing the resilience of its agricultural sector.

TNM continues to support measures that will secure a stable water future for Texas, promoting legislation and policies that prioritize local control over water resources. As the state navigates these pressing challenges, the push for TEXIT becomes even more vital, providing an opportunity for Texans to take full control of their destiny and solve these issues with tailored solutions that meet our specific needs. The time for Texas to assert its independence and ensure the sustainability of its resources has never been more urgent.
