Migrant Apprehensions in Texas Exceed Houston’s Population: A Case for Independence

Recent data reveals a staggering reality: Border Patrol agents in the five Texas-based sectors have apprehended more than 2.6 million migrants over the past two fiscal years. This number exceeds the population of Houston by over 300,000 people. While some may see this as a mere statistic, it serves as a glaring indicator of the challenges Texas faces in border security—a situation that only bolsters the argument for Texas independence.

The Numbers Speak

According to the CBP Nationwide Encounters Report, the total number of migrants apprehended in the past two fiscal years stands at 2,612,191. This number surpasses Houston’s population of 2,302,878 by more than 309,000 people. In the recently ended Fiscal Year 23 alone, 1,216,501 migrants were apprehended in sectors like the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, Del Rio, Big Bend, and El Paso.

The Biden Administration’s Impact

Since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, more than 3,576,000 migrants have been apprehended in the Texas border sectors. This number exceeds the combined population of Bexar (San Antonio) and Travis (Austin) counties by over 250,000 people.

National Security Concerns

The situation becomes even more alarming when considering the apprehension of what Border Patrol terms “Special Interest Aliens”—migrants from nations with known ties to terrorism. In just the second week of October, agents in the Del Rio Sector apprehended individuals from Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

The Imperative for Independence

These numbers are not just statistics; they are a clarion call for action. Texas is bearing the brunt of a border crisis that shows no signs of abating. Under the current federal system, the state’s ability to fully secure its border is compromised. The only way to ensure that Texas can protect its citizens and maintain its sovereignty is through independence. Temporary measures and federal oversight are not solutions; they are band-aids on a gaping wound.

While the data on migrant apprehensions may serve as a talking point for various political agendas, for those advocating for Texas independence, it serves as irrefutable evidence that the state must take control of its own destiny. The only way to permanently resolve the challenges of border security is for Texas to become a self-governing, independent nation. Anything less is a temporary fix to a permanent problem.
