“Get off my lawn!” – DC gets a taste of the border crisis

The Washington, D.C. bureaucrats are finally getting a taste of their own medicine. The repeated pleas of Texas and other border states have gone unanswered as the federal government continues to invite and allow hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to invade the southern border. But now the invasion has been bussed to their front door, and their reaction proves they only care about themselves.

Over the past two years, the Biden administration has blatantly and purposefully thwarted the efforts of Texas to secure the border. Not only do they continually refuse to secure the southern border, but the $2.2 billion allocated for border wall construction was sent back to the Department of Defense, leaving the wall unfinished and ineffective. The result of this, in combination with Biden’s open-border policies, is massive surges of illegal immigrants crossing into the US through Texas and Arizona.

In April, the total number of border migrant encounters was estimated at 234,088 – the highest monthly total to date. According to CBP, May’s numbers were even higher – around 239,416. June reports showed 207,416 migrants at the border.

So what does it take to get the attention of the bureaucrats in D.C.?. Repeated invitations went out to Biden and Harris to visit the border towns to see how devastating the situation was, not only for the migrants but for the residents of the towns they are invading. They repeatedly refuse to visit.

So, in April, Governor Greg Abbott – “facing immense political pressure from both sides”(GMA) – finally decided to take the border to Biden and began busing immigrants directly to the steps of the Capitol Building. He said, “The Biden administration is already busing migrants to Texas cities up and down the border that don’t have the resources to deal with the problem,” and added, “By busing migrants to Washington, D.C., the Biden administration will be able to more immediately meet the needs of the people they are allowing to cross our border. Texas should not bear the burden of the Biden Administration’s failure to secure our border.”

In May, the Arizona governor joined with Texas and started sending buses to D.C., as well. Governor Ducey stated, “With Arizona community resources under all-time demand, and little action of assistance from the federal government, individuals who entered Arizona seeking asylum have the opportunity to voluntarily be transported to Washington, D.C.” This decision comes after promises from the Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to give Arizona funding and resources have gone unfulfilled. Why not send the migrants to where they are wanted? The mayor of D.C., Muriel Bowser, has stated for years that her city is a “sanctuary city, ” and three years ago, Bowser publicly stated that D.C. should “celebrate immigrants in their city.”(Fox5)  Even the volunteer groups in D.C. have admitted, “The D.C. community has communicated loudly and clearly since early April that we welcome the people that are being bused here.”

Now, after receiving more than 150 buses full of people needing assistance in the past three months, Mayor Bowser has changed her tune. She has sent multiple requests (July 19th and July 22nd) to the federal government for immediate assistance by sending resources and the National Guard. After receiving only about 4,000 people into her city, she states, “Our collective response and service efforts have now been overwhelmed.” She characterizes the situation as “dire…one that could overwhelm our social support network without immediate and sustained federal intervention.” In one of her letters, Bowser said, “I recognize the magnitude of this request. But the Governors of Texas and Arizona are making a political statement to the federal government, and instead, their actions are having direct impacts on city and regional resources in ways that are unsustainable.”(NatReview)

Welcome to Texas, Mayor Bowser. This is exactly the situation Texas has been dealing with since January 2020. The open-borders policy of the Biden administration and its refusal to deal with border security is also a political statement from the federal government.  Moreover, it’s a direct attack on the citizens of Texas and Arizona. However, now that D.C. is having to deal with the issue on their front lawn instead of from halfway across the country, it seems they have decided to do something about it, even if it is just a little thing. Maybe the governor of Texas should have listened when Daniel Miller suggested sending illegals to D.C. over 12 years ago!

On July 29, 2022, the White House issued a statement that the U.S.-Mexico border wall is “ineffective” and that they are planning to “fix four small gaps” in the wall in southern Arizona. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre explains that they are “not finishing the wall” but rather fixing the prior administration’s failed attempt at properly building one in the first place. This “failed attempt” is a direct result of Biden “reallocating” $2.2 billion from the border wall fund.

The federal government is responsible for fixing the problem but has only agreed to small patches here and there. None of those fixes will be along the Texas border. Texans want the border secured, and Texans are paying for it. It’s time to stop waiting on the US to do the right thing.  It’s time to take our independence back and begin to solve our problems with out ingenuity and resources.  That’s the Texas way.
